How VoteLens handles your data and protects your privacy

Last updated: March 17, 2026  ·  Effective immediately
Short version: VoteLens does not collect personal information. You do not need to create an account or share any data to use this service. We only use an anonymous ZIP code to look up your local representatives.
1

Information We Collect

VoteLens is a no-account, no-login service. We collect the following minimal information when you use our service:

  • ZIP code — entered by you on the search form to identify your local representatives. This is not stored beyond your current session.
  • Issue / concern text — the political topic or keyword you enter. This is processed on-demand to match relevant bills and is not stored.
  • Standard server logs — like most web servers, our host may automatically record your IP address, browser type, and pages visited for operational and security purposes. These logs are not personally linked to your searches.
2

How We Use Information

The information you provide is used solely to:

  • Look up your local congressional representatives using your ZIP code.
  • Match your stated concern or issue to relevant legislative bills using AI classification.
  • Display voting records for those representatives on those bills.

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or sell it to any third party.

Third-Party Services

VoteLens uses the following third-party services to operate:

  • OpenAI API — your issue text is sent to OpenAI for topic classification. OpenAI's privacy policy applies to this data. See openai.com/privacy.
  • Google Fonts — fonts are loaded from Google's servers. Google may log your IP address. See Google's privacy policy for details.
  • Government voting data sources — voting records are sourced from official U.S. government databases. No personal data is shared with these sources.
4

Cookies

VoteLens uses only a session cookie required by site for security purposes (CSRF protection). This cookie does not track you across sites and expires when you close your browser.

We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or any persistent tracking cookies.

5

Data Retention

VoteLens does not store your ZIP code, search terms, or query results in any database. All searches are ephemeral — your data exists only for the duration of your request and is discarded immediately afterward.

6

Children's Privacy

VoteLens does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The service contains public civic information and is designed for general audiences researching political representatives.
